William Schlotter Kriebel- First DU PresidentBy Alan Piciacchio '89- DU Historian

Our first president, William Schlotter Kriebel (c/o 1912, from Germantown), was the transitional president – the last one in Phi Tau and the first one in Delta Upsilon – having been elected to head the Phi Tau Chapter in the Spring of 1911.

Although Brother Kriebel did not attend the Rutgers Convention in the Fall of 1911, having delegated that honor to others, he did have a significant role in preparing the final petition booklet along with helpful suggestions from Dr. Pond.

Kriebel’s brothers, Thomas Edwin Kriebel (c/o 1915), Richard Theodore Kriebel (c/o 1926) were also Penn State DUs.  Thomas died in World War I (killed on 9/28/1918 according to the 1918-1919 DU Quarterly). He was the first-ever PSU DU to be killed in combat.

In 1919, Brother Kriebel was in the sales department of the American Brass Company of Ansonia, CT.  Brother Kriebel was married to Mary Hewitt Kriebel and passed away on July 31, 1960.
