We recently caught up with our very own Garren Nowicki '96 and had the chance to ask him about his DU experience, and where life since Penn State has taken him. Here's what he had to say:

Where has life taken you since you graduated? Give us a brief recap up to this point including career and family highlights.

I’ve been living in Newtown, PA (30 minutes NE of Philly) since graduation while working in NYC and Philly as an actuary and then in Princeton and now Yardley, PA as a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch for the past 20 years. My wife and I met during DU/AOPi Spring Week 1994 and got married in 2000. We have four kids – a HS sophomore, a seventh-grader, and twin second graders. All of us love to play soccer and ski.

What are the most important lessons you learned because of DU?

I was just looking for a place to fit in and even though I never lived in the house and didn’t drink much while in college, I was able to find a bunch of lifelong friends. We may actually be better friends now than we were in college.

When you look back on your time in DU, what moments do you tend to remember most?

THON canning weekends – specifically the one where it snowed so much that we couldn’t actually can so we shoveled driveways for free and asked for donations to THON as a thank-you THON itself – from dancing as a sophomore to having three of us on the overall committee in 2016 IM football powerhouse which led to years of AOPi Football Challenge weekends after graduation culminating in finally winning the trophy as “OLD” guys. Spring Week 1994 for more reasons than just meeting my wife – think Animal House or Old School (I didn’t think this stuff actually happened in real life) 1999 - PSU at Miami in the pouring rain where after giving up the lead late a brother said, “if we win, I’ll shave my head”. A 79 yard pass to Chafie Fields later and his head is being shaved (for life – he never grew it back) on the front porch of our hotel using the sideburn trimmer (flip up) of an electric face razor.

Can you share any photos of you back at Penn State or today? Photos with fellow DU’s are welcome!

My family has vacationed multiple times with brothers and their families, from beach weeks in DE and the Outer Banks of NC to island hopping in Hawaii.

Would you or a brother you know make a great alumni profile subject? Email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to let us know!
